In-Law Survival Guide PART 2

Then he said to them all:
“Whoever wants to be my disciple
must deny themselves
and take up their cross daily
and follow me."
-Luke 9:23

(Continued from yesterday's blog, excerpt from the book Becoming the Woman of His Dreams by Sharon Jaynes)

CREATE A LIST. Look for the good qualities in your in-laws and be sure to acknowledge them. Perhaps it is that they raised an incredible son.

LET IT ROLL. There are scores of jokes about the tension between mothers-in-law and sons-in-law, but studies show that the most difficult relationship is the one between the mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law. Betsey's mother-in-law asked, "How are Bill's allergies?" "He doesn't have allergies," Betsey replied. "I raised him and I know he has allergies!" the mom proclaimed. Just listen and then let comments roll off your back.

PREPARE FOR HOLIDAYS. Ask your husband how he would like to spend the holidays and consider alternating with traditions from your family.

PRAY. Ask God to show you if you are seeking your parents' approval above that of your husband.

How are things with your in-laws?

Is there any of the above that resonates with you? Why?
