So you think you can Dance?

Psalms 150

1 Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens!
2 Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness!
3 Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp!
4 Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe!
5 Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals!
6 Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!

One of our favorite childhood picture books was Angelina Ballerina.  It has the most precious story line of a family of mice. Angelina is the daughter who loves to dance.  She dances on her way to school, as she comes down the hall, on her way to the grocery store…the family can’t stop her.  Everywhere she is goes, she dances.

Little did I know that our third child should have been named after the mouse, Angelina!  She dances everywhere just like Angelina.  She is constantly showing me her new accomplishments, and my phone is ever ready for pictures or videos.

What if we really lived out Psalm 150? Suppose we saw every opportunity as one to “Praise the Lord.”

As moms, we scratch our heads as we try to live out “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”  My understanding of this verse is that each child has a “bent.”  They were made in specific and varying ways.

Our oldest, the artist, didn’t excel in room clean up, but she has learned to praise Him with paint and crafts and ideas.

Our middle child, enjoys sports.  As he gallops ahead of his teammates it is evident that He too is using his talents to praise the Lord.

Girls, each of our children where created for praise.  Give them small percussion instruments, paint, a microphone, a lacrosse stick, whatever it is that will lead them to give praise.  Let them find that which they were created for and let them express praise with their unique talents.

  2. Amen, Joannie! Each one of our kids is so unique. There's no need to make them fit into our own little molds, bc God has already given them one! :)
