Today for Tomorrow

Matthew 6:25-34

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?  Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’  For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Jesus words in Matthew 6 are so applicable to each and everyone of us.  They will penetrate our minds and hearts and empower us to live a life that makes God known every day and everywhere we go.  We will have love, power, and joy no matter what the day holds; finding ourselves in the center of God's will.....if we allow them too. Easier said than done, it takes practice and commitment.

I've mentioned my teenagers often; Samuel 17 and Bailee 15.  They both have very distinct gifts and callings that the Lord has placed in and on their lives.  Samuel believes that the Lord is leading him towards youth ministry. Bailee believes that the Lord is leading her to minister in the world of Ballet.  We do not know exactly what that looks like in their future.  However, we have been learning to live in those gifts and calling today.  King David declares in Psalm 139:16 "All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be."   As Samuel gets ready to finish his Junior year of high school, he is faced with  many questions about his future, college, major, etc.  We try to encourage him that although it is good to pray and plan about those things he must remember that "Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the Lord's purpose that prevails" Proverbs 19:21 We remind him that if he only focuses on his "tomorrow" he misses God's plans for "today".  The same applies to Bailee.  She dreams of becoming a Ballet dancer in a professional dance company.  However, this very morning she will slick her hair back into a perfect bun, dress in tights, a leotard and pointe shoes and go off to Ballet class.  Today she is a Ballet dancer.  The Lord put the gift of dance in her for today to take her to the places He wants, to minister in and through her.  As we function today in the gifts and callings God has "knit" in us, He is glorified every step of the way.  We live for the day not the dream because the dream is in today!
 Isaiah 26:3
"You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you."
Be encouraged godly mom! My prayer is that we will enjoy today and teach our children to do the same.  To see today as the day we have and live it to God's fullest for His purposes in and through us.
