Let's Tackle Selfishness

Join me in declaring 2014 as the year to Love One Another! 2/14, get it? Let's start by tackling selfishness.

But if you are bitterly jealous and there is selfish ambition in your heart, don't cover up the truth with boasting and lying. For jealousy and selfishness are not Gods kind of wisdom. Such things are earthly, unspiritual, and demonic. For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. - James 3:14-16 (NLT)

1 - Admit your selfishness and be honest about it. It isn't easy for us to look ourselves and honestly recognize our selfishness. Admitting it, will free you to let go and begin healing.  There is no other way to begin this process.

2 - Begin to give generously even when you least want to. Your family and friends needs your TIME, ENERGY, ATTENTION & MONEY.  GIVE IT! Invest in someone other than yourself. "Give and it shall be given unto you..." - Luke 6:38. Don't worry about people taking advantage of you, let the Lord deal with them. Give anonymously. See a need and fill it. God will present opportunities for you to exercise unselfishness. Just Do It!

3 - Be patient with those who have endured your selfishness. They may not say it to your face, but they have been hurt, victimized, and suffered from it. They'll wonder what it will cost them. Dealing with your condescending attitude or some other ulterior motive. They may want to see a track record of generosity and thoughtfulness before fully accepting the new you.

4 - At the end of your day, examine yourself. Were you selfish towards your those you came into contact with through the course of your day (examine your thoughts, words, attitude, and actions). Judge yourself! Be honest, don't blame others or make excuses. Repent of the things you believe the Lord is revealing to you. You will have another opportunity to make it right. Become a servant.

5 - Walk in LOVE. Print I Corinthians 13:1-8 and post it somewhere you will see it and read it daily. "So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” - John 13:34, 35 (NLT)

Question: What will you give TODAY? (#2 above)
